Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 Announced

Apple has seen fit to announce its latest Apple Watch Series 9 at its Wonderlust event. The new Apple Watch Series 9 brings a plethora of changes compared to the Series 8 along with faster internals for a fluid user experience. While the design is pretty much the same, there are new color options.

In terms of design, the Apple Watch Series 9 features the same chassis as the Series 8. The edge-to-edge display is now double the brightness of the Apple Watch Series 8, reaching all the way up to 2000 nits. Additionally, the display can also go as 1 nit if you want to save battery life. Externally, the wearable is pretty similar to the Series 8 but carries a plethora of upgrades on the inside.

The Apple Watch Series 9 comes with a brand-new S9 chip, a major upgrade from the S8 chip on the Series 8. The S-series of chips for the Apple Watch has remained more or less unchanged since the S6 chip on the Apple Watch Series 6. The S9 chip features enhanced computational and graphical performance thanks to the 5.6 billion transistors. According to Apple, the chip is 60 percent faster than the S6 chip with a 2 times faster neural engine.

With a new S9 chip, the battery life has been increased to 18 hours on a single charge. As for what is new in terms of new features, Apple has added a new NameDrop feature that allows for easier contact sharing. Health features are also improved with an improved heart rate sensor. The new gyroscope enables a new feature called Double Tap that makes use of your fingers to initiate a command, such as picking up a phone call or initiating smart stacks in watchOS 10.
