Mortal Kombat 1 Horror Icon DLC Possibly Teased, Including Ghostface and… Chucky?

Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 only launched around a month ago, but of course, attention and excitement has already turned toward future content and characters. Unsurprisingly, series mastermind Ed Boon is happy to fuel this speculation, recently tweeting an image featuring a number of horror movie icons.

The characters with the checkmarks have already appeared in past Mortal Kombat games, which, of course, doesn’t preclude them from appearing again. As for the ones with question marks, well, they’re up in the air. Ah, but dataminers have been digging around the code for Mortal Kombat 1 and have found potential evidence of a number of characters, including Cassie Cage, Noob Saibot, Jade, Kung Jin, and… Ghostface from the Scream franchise. So, perhaps Ed Boon has low-key confirmed that Ghostface will be dusting off the ol’ knife and robes.

Beyond Ghostface, we don’t know if any of the other horror villains shown will be included. That said, Kombat Pack 1 has a bit of a superhero theme, featuring characters like Suicide Squad’s Peacemaker, The Boys’ Homelander, and Invincible’s Omni Man. So, it might make sense to do a horror-themed pack, and if you did, you’d need more than one killer. Basically, this is all a roundabout way of saying I really, really hope Chucky and the Jigsaw puppet become playable fighters in Mortal Kombat 1.

Haven’t been keeping up with Mortal Kombat 1? I found it to be a bloody good time, if a bit light on content, in my full review

“Mortal Kombat 1 is one of the franchise’s most bloody-entertaining entries to date, offering up refined action, smartly revamped fighters, and a story mode that delivers a surprisingly-coherent plot and plenty of blockbuster thrills. A lack of compelling modes and meaningful character customization does hurt, but Mortal Kombat 1 should be a heart-ripping hit with fans even if the overall package is slightly anemic.”

Mortal Kombat 1 is available now on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch (although you shouldn’t buy the Switch version). What do you think? What horror movie icons would you like to see in MK1?
