OnePlus 7T vs OnePlus 7 Render Comparison: Here’s a First Look at the Design and Camera Changes

OnePlus 7T vs OnePlus 7; a first look at the difference in renders

As the rumored September 26 launch date of the OnePlus 7T draws near, we’re bound to come across more leaks talking about the design and changes that will separate the upcoming model from the OnePlus 7. Just a few hours back, renders of the upcoming handset were leaked, and here, we’ll give you guys a first look at the design changes and camera differences between the two smartphones. Here’s our first look at the ‘OnePlus 7T vs OnePlus 7’ render comparison, with additional details to follow in the near future.

Front Changes Virtually Non-Existent, With Notable Differences Visible on the Back

It looks like OnePlus will maintain the same teardrop as it did on the OnePlus 7, housing a single front-facing shooter for the upcoming handset. Whether or not the front side will house a different sensor, we’ll have to wait for that. However, when comparing the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T specifications, both devices feature the same 16MP front camera, so we doubt we’ll see any changes here. We also think OnePlus will continue using its Optic AMOLED screen technology, but a higher refresh rate for the OnePlus 7T doesn’t seem to be on the cards as it will increase production costs unnecessarily.

Perhaps the most interesting change is the rear camera array, with a previous leak showing the device sporting a large circular camera hump. The backside clearly shows three cameras, compared to the two present on the OnePlus 7, along with an LED flash. The OnePlus 7 Pro’s sensor set might continue to be superior compared to the OnePlus 7T’s imaging capabilities despite the increase in cameras, but it certainly looks like users could get more versatility from this configuration compared to what the OnePlus 7 offers.

If you want to know our predictions related to the OnePlus 7T camera configuration, among other details, be sure to check out the information published below.

OnePlus 7T vs OnePlus 7: Potential Hardware Specification Differences

First, we’ll discuss the potential camera specifications. The three sensors on the OnePlus 7T means one of them could be Sony’s Exmor IMX586 48MP sensor used on both the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7. As we start dissecting the differences further, it’s noted that the secondary camera on the cheaper OnePlus 7 is just a 5MP depth sensor, used for processing images with a bokeh effort, similar to what most devices do. However, camera processing software and computational techniques are also capable of blurring the background accurately to an extent, so we expect the OnePlus 7T to offer more than just this.

The secondary camera on the upcoming model could offer a wide-angle camera or telephoto lens, depending on the company’s decision. Our prediction is that we’ll see an ultra-wide-angle lens, with OnePlus relying on digital zoom to capture images with some degradation in overall quality, but not a noticeable difference. The last sensor could be used for depth-sensing purposes. Now, if we were overly optimistic with our predictions, we’d see the OnePlus 7T feature both an ultra-wide angle and telephoto lens, but that could be reserved for the OnePlus 7T Pro if such a device exists.

As for the other specifications, we could see the OnePlus 7T feature the Snapdragon 855 Plus, giving it a small computing and graphical performance boost over the Snapdragon 855-fueled OnePlus 7. The last time the company used different mobile chipsets in a single year was back in 2016 when it launched both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. The OnePlus 3 featured a Snapdragon 820, while the 3T harnessed the power of the Snapdragon 821. This year, depending on the company’s decision, we could see the same thing happen.

Another minor change could be the increase in battery capacity. Just last year, the OnePlus 6T featured a 3700mAh battery in contrast to the OnePlus 6’s 3300mAh cell, showing that a bigger size using the same chassis is a possibility. The OnePlus 7T could also be offered in more storage and memory variants too. As of right now, the OnePlus 7 has a 12GB RAM version, but it’s only exclusive to China right now, so a 12GB RAM + 256GB UFS 3.0 storage-touting OnePlus 7T available in multiple markets for a competitive price will give the company a major market share increase.

Unfortunately, that’s about all the information we can provide you with our ‘OnePlus 7T vs OnePlus 7’ render comparison. We’re sure to come across more details in the future, as the potential launch date draws near, so stay tuned for some follow-up coverage.
