The next version of Android will simply be the number 10; no more dessert shenanigans. The software is expected to make its way to Pixels in the coming weeks. Usually, OEMs wait for after the release date to tell users about what they have planned, update-wise. HMD, on the other hand, thought that this was an ideal moment for that reveal and has revealed its roadmap for Android 10 updates. The company has listed which phones will be updated to the latest version and when over the next half year. Here they are:
- Nokia 9 PureView – Q4 2019
- Nokia 8.1 – Q4 2019
- Nokia 7.1 – Q4 2019
- Nokia 7 Plus – Q4 2019 to Q1 2020
- Nokia 6.1 Plus – Q4 2019 to Q1 2020
- Nokia 6.1 – Q4 2019 to Q1 2020
- Nokia 4.2 – Q1 2020
- Nokia 3.2 – Q1 2020
- Nokia 3.1 Plus – Q1 2020
- Nokia 2.2 – Q1 2020
- Nokia 1 Plus – Q1 2020
- Nokia 5.1 Plus – Q1 2020
- Nokia 8 Sirocco – Q1 2020
- Nokia 2.1 – Q2 2020
- Nokia 3.1 – Q2 2020
- Nokia 5.1 – Q2 2020
- Nokia 1 – Q2 2020
In all, 17 phones are currently planned to receive the much-awaited update. The Nokia 7.1 and 8.1 will be one of the first to get Android 10 along with the trypophobia-inducing Nokia 9 PureView. Not surprising, considering that they’re flagship devices. The mid-rangers are next, followed by the budget devices. We wouldn’t be surprised if more devices make it to this list. HMD Global, unlike certain OEMs, is serious about software support across all devices. It is one of the only companies (Essential doesn’t count, they have one phone) that has rolled out Android Pie to all its devices. They even went as far as extending support for certain first-generation devices by a year. If there is one company that’ll stick to their schedule; it’s HMD Global. It’s high time that OEMs embrace the concept of three major software upgrades for supported devices. Google and OnePlus have already started it, and it’d be great if HMD did it too.
