The Galaxy Note 10 turned some heads at its launch event a few days ago. Despite its prohibitively high price, Samsung’s 2019 flagship has a lot of interesting features, one of which is one that allows users to connect the device to a PC and easily transfer files between the different platforms via DeX. Today, Sammobile stumbled upon a Twitter post that indicates the features will eventually be made available for older Galaxy flagships starting from the Galaxy S9 series with Android Q. One of the major grouse that many users have had with DeX is the requirement of a dedicated dock and it’s good to see that Samsung is working on phasing it out.

The information comes via a reputed leaker who states that the updated DeX features will be launched on the Galaxy S9 and newer flagship models along with the Android Q update, which will (unsurprisingly) be called OneUI 2.0. Based on this year’s Android Pie rollout, Android Q is expected to land for the Galaxy S10 series In Q4 2019 or Q1 2020. It isn’t surprising in the slightest, considering that Samsung has had a good track record of keeping their older flagships on par with their newer counterparts. For example, Night Mode was exclusive to the Galaxy S10 series upon launch and is now available for all the devices that support it. We shouldn’t rule out the possibility of other Note 10-exclusive features such as Video Bokeh and video editing tools making their way to older devices. The Galaxy S9 series and Note 9 are still powerful devices that pack the necessary hardware to support such functionality. The Galaxy Note 9, in particular, could also be at the receiving end of some of the new S Pen features as both rely on Bluetooth LE to communicate with the device. Features such as AR Doodle will, however, remain exclusive to the Note 10 as all previous devices lack a ToF camera.
