Report after report has been piling up regarding an ‘earlier than expected’ 16-inch MacBook Pro release date, with the latest one pointing towards a third-quarter launch. The Taiwanese market intelligence provider TrendForce recently published a report regarding notebook sales, according to which laptop shipments reached 41.5 million units in the second quarter, a year-over-year increase of 12.1 percent. This was despite concerns regarding the U.S-China spat and supply-side uncertainties. The company also expects various vendors, including Apple, of course, to release new products in the July-September period.
With So Many Sources Claiming The Same, The 16-inch MacBook Pro Might Actually Be Headed Towards A September Unveiling
If you want a count, this is the fifth credible source claiming that the 16-inch MacBook Pro will be released in fall, although there is some divide over the exact date, with some industry watchers saying it will arrive in October, not September.
According to TrendForce’s estimates, the Cupertino giant sold 3.2 million units in the second quarter and witnessed QoQ growth of 1.7 percent and presumably, it might be looking to keep that momentum going by releasing a new notebook in fall and capitalizing on strong demand, as afterward shipments might be jolted thanks to tariffs. This is just a speculation, so take it with a pinch of salt.
“According to the 3Q outlook for notebook shipments, demand for Chromebooks remains strong thanks to the back-to-school period; at the same time, we see new products hitting shelves, such as Apple’s 16-inch MacBook, Dell’s products with 16:10 aspect ratio, Asus’s dual-screen laptop, as well as various gaming laptops in increasingly hot demand. Although the actual number of sales will have to wait until the market gives its verdict, these new releases do help push up stock levels.”
Moving on, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is expected to feature the same overall size as the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro and this will apparently be achieved by making the bezels exceptionally thinner smaller.
It is expected to come with a new scissor mechanism keyboard and under the hood will probably be Intel’s 9th-generation Coffee Lake Refresh processors. With less than a month to go until September starts, it won’t be long until we find out if the rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro will be revealed alongside the 2019 iPhones or later in October, as has traditionally been the case.
