Windows 10 Will Now Let You Know If Your Device Is Ready for the Latest May 2019 Update

microsoft windows 10 cumulative updates install Windows 10 1903 may 2019 update

Wondering whether you can upgrade to the latest Windows 10 May 2019 Update? Microsoft is now letting users know if their machines are ready for the upgrade. The following message appears when you click on check for updates button in the Settings app:

The Windows 10 May 2019 Update is on its way. We’re offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn’t quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you’ll see the update available on this page. There’s nothing you need to do at this time.

This notification will help users who have been waiting for the latest update and not seeing the upgrade alert. There is still the option to manually download and install Windows 10 version 1903, but that route isn’t officially recommended since it could result in compatibility issues or other problems.

Microsoft recently also released a notice announcing that it has started to “build and train the machine learning (ML) based rollout process to update devices running the April 2018 Update, and earlier versions of Windows 10, to ensure we can continue to service these devices and provide the latest updates, security updates and improvements.” While that means automatic upgrades for Windows 10 version 1803 and earlier versions, this system would also assist the company in assessing which devices are ready for the upgrade.

Can’t wait? Head over here to manually download Windows 10 1903 ISO files. Don’t really want to install this latest version (it’s a pretty good update, by the way), head over here to learn about how to temporarily block it without compromising on security patches.
