Nintendo’s Higher Chip Demand Hints At Switch Mini Production

Switch Mini

Rumors about the release of the Nintendo Switch Mini have been circulating for a while now. The Japanese company has yet to confirm this hardware revision, but there have been hints that its production may have gone into full swing.

Taiwanese Chip Supplier Macronix, which provides chips for Nintendo, recently confirmed that the Japanese company has ordered more chips in the past 2 months than expected. Macronix also noted how such high demand is very unusual, as the first and second quarter are usually quiet months from the company. The huge demand seems to hint at the fact that the chips are required for the production of the Switch Mini.

Last week, Chinese company HonSon sent out an email stating that Switch Mini accessories are in the works and that they will be released before the end of the year. The company also put up some renders of these accessories, but it’s been later revealed that the renders are not official, but they are based on “secret information”.

The Switch Mini is also supposed to boost hardware sales growth for Nintendo.

Growth in the current period will get a boost from the launch of a new, cheaper version of the Switch, according to two people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to discuss private plans. The new device will likely be launched by the end of June, according to one of the people. The existing Switch will receive a modest upgrade this year, though a more powerful version is not in the works, the people said.
