The iPod touch is long overdue for a refresh, with the latest iteration introduced back in 2017 with dated internal specifications and a boring design. Looks like Apple might up the aesthetics for this product because according to the iOS 12.2 Beta 4 code 4 leak, the next iPod touch might look significantly different from its predecessor. Apple ditched the home button in 2017 for its iPhones starting with the launch of the iPhone X and followed the same approach when it launched its 2018 iPad Pro series. Perhaps the company could do the same with its iPod touch.
Unreleased iPod Touch Codenamed ‘HLSipod2’ Appears in iOS 12.2 Beta 4 Without a Visible Home Button as Well as Minimum Bezels
Jonathan Mitchell was engaged in some iOS 12.2 Beta 4 code cracking when he stumbled upon an unreleased product named HLSipod2. According to him, HLSipod is the 6th-generation iPod touch, the model that is currently being sold on Apple’s website, while HLSipod2 could be its successor. According to the glyphs, the unreleased model does not have a home button, suggesting that Apple could make a design change to match it with the 2018 iPhone lineup.
This will include minimizing the bezels, and putting a notch at the top, where the device will house the TrueDepth camera for Face ID facial recognition. As for the display technology, Apple will most definitely stick to IPS LCD like it has with the iPhone XR to minimize manufacturing costs and pass those savings on to customers. There’s no word on the kind of hardware we should expect from the upcoming iPod touch, but we feel that these devices will not support Qi wireless charging and come with an A10 Fusion at least.

The current iPod touch with 32GB of storage costs $199, while the 128GB model will set you back by $299. For just an iPod touch, it is rather steep because a customer can simply get the iPad 6 for $329, and the tablet also gets support for the Apple Pencil. There’s no telling when Apple will proceed with the launch of the 7th-generation iPod touch, but our gut tells us it will be during the September 2019 announcement.
