Oppo branched Realme off into a separate sub-brand, focusing heavily on online sales and attracting technology-focused individuals who are on a tight budget. As a result, Realme smartphones boast of good value mainly through their affordable price tags, and a good mix of specifications and features that lets them stand out from the competition, even if they cannot completely beat it.
Realme recently launched their latest smartphone in India, the Realme 3. The phone features specifications such as a 6.22″ HD+ 19:9 display, MediaTek Helio P70 SoC, a beefy 4,230 mAh battery and more. One of the talking points of the device is its rear camera, which is a 13MP sensor but with f/1.8 aperture, coupled with a 2MP depth sensor, promising some good shots on a tight budget. Further, Realme is including a dedicated night mode called Nightscape for better night photography, and a Chroma Boost mode for low-light photography.
We have the Realme 3 in hand for review, and here you can see its Nightscape feature in action. Nightscape uses “AI” and multi-frame exposure to produce brighter images in really low light situations. Keep in mind that this is a device that starts off at ₹8,999 ($127), and so, one can really appreciate the results that Nightscape manages to produce.
As it turns out, Realme plans to include all of its older devices in the Nightscape party. Realme India’s CEO, Mr. Madhav Sheth has confirmed that the Nightscape feature from the Realme 3 will be rolling out to all Realme devices, though this confirmation comes without a timeline.
Realme smartphones like the Realme 3 can have their bootloader unlocked from day one, while others like the Realme 2 Pro have recently gained this permission. Realme 3 also comes with Camera2API enabled, which would allow users to take advantage of aftermarket camera solutions like GCam mod without needing to root their devices. Rolling out new functionality to older devices, especially in the budget segment, is a move that definitely deserves some praise.
