State of Play Announced for September 14, Sony Promises Updates on “Major” 3rd Party Titles

PS5 sales PS5 Pro Sony State of Play

Well, it looks like we’ve got an E3 in September on our hands. Earlier today, it was announced a big Nintendo Direct was coming tomorrow (September 14) and now Sony has followed suit, saying they’ll also be bringing us a State of Play show on the same day. Thankfully, the State of Play will happen in the afternoon rather than the morning, so the showcases won’t literally overlap, but sheesh – don’t Sony and Nintendo have each other’s numbers? Couldn’t they have picked different days?

Anyways, here’s a bit more info on the upcoming State of Play courtesy of PlayStation’s Shawne Benson…

“Tomorrow’s broadcast will focus on updates to previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles. From indie and PS VR2 highlights, to major upcoming titles from our third-party partners, our latest show has something for everyone!

Here at PlayStation, our vision is to be the best place to play, and publish, great games. And because there are thousands of developers and publishers all around the world constantly making great games, our team has their work cut out for them. I hope you can tune in tomorrow to check out a diverse selection of upcoming games.”

While Sony isn’t terribly forthcoming with details, it does seem like this will mostly be a third-party-focused showcase. While there’s a chance we glimpse a bit of Spider-Man 2 or other Sony first-party titles, I suspect that will be saved for future showcases. So what might we see? With Halloween coming up, it might be time for more info about Silent Hill 2. Of course, more information on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Death Stranding 2 would always be welcome. And perhaps we’ll get some more detail on the growing list of Chinese PS5 exclusives like Stray Blade and Lost Soul Aside. We shall see!

The new State of Play will be streamed tomorrow (September 14) at 2pm PT. What do you think Sony will show off? What do you hope to see included in the show? And most importantly, who’s going to win the September 14 battle – Nintendo or Sony?
