Star Wars Eclipse’s Development Is Reportedly “Simmering”, Reveals Quantic Dream

Star Wars Eclipse

The development of Star Wars Eclipse, the highly-awaited title being developed by Quantic Dream, is moving forward, albeit slowly, said the developer. Speaking to IGN at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Lisa Pendse, VP of Marketing at Quantic Dream, said on the topic:

Can I say it still exists? Because it exists. It's just not ready. It's simmering.

Details regarding the Star Wars title are slim since Quantic Dreams hasn't disclosed much about it, but based on previous rumors, it is said to be a proper action/adventure title, a first for the French studio that made its name with purely adventure games where the action was heavily scripted and based on Quick Time Events (QTE).

Lisa has expressed that the enthusiast will see a rather "continuous" gameplay, and it won't have a "game over screen". The studio adopts a strategy similar to what we saw with 2013's Beyond: Two Souls and other Quantic Dream titles.

One of the big focuses we've had when we announced Star Wars Eclipse was to make sure it was clear that this is actually an action-adventure game that has all of the elements that you would come to expect and want from a Quantic Dream title, which is intricately branching narratives, multiple playable characters.

There's no game over. Anyone can die, anything can happen, and the story sort of continues so that those signatures are still there. But what we've been doing is even more ramping up our expertise in the gameplay arena.

The news of the slow development isn't exactly surprising to those who've followed the rumors that predicted a 2026 target launch. Star Wars Eclipse is labeled the studio's most "ambitious" project; hence, the studio may want to take its time refining it.

As a reminder, Quantic Dream was acquired by NetEase seven months ago for around €100 million.
