NVIDIA's H100 AI GPUs have been the new talk in the industry, topping all charts when it comes to record sales. The research firm Omdia has disclosed that NVIDIA shipped 900 tons of H100s in Q2 2023, revealing a really interesting figure.
NVIDIA H100 GPUs Are Dominating The AI Space & Shipping Tons Each Quarter
Now, the analysis in the first place seems weird, but Omdia hasn't revealed the reason behind disclosing the shipping numbers in the form of the "weight" of GPUs. It can be presumed that Omida obtained shipping figures from a vendor, but that isn't certain yet. Calculating the actual number, Omdia suggests that a single H100 GPU weighs around 3 kilograms; hence, it is estimated that Team Green sold around 300,000 H100s in Q2, which is a huge figure considering the industry estimates.
The figure revealed by Omdia involves a lot of "factors" to consider, such as the weight of individual H100 modules and GPUs, but we won't go into that since it will make things boring. However, emphasizing the shipping volumes of H100s becomes necessary, given that Team Green has forecasted humongous figures for its AI GPUs. We reported a while back that NVIDIA plans to ship 1.5 million to 2 million AI GPUs by 2024, with most of them featuring the populous H100s, and the report by Omida depicts that the company is on track to reach the milestone.
The genAI boom has undoubtedly put tech companies in a race, with the H100s proving to be a decisive catalyst toward the actual integration. With that, one should expect NVIDIA to reach astonishing figures by the end of the year now that financial reports are rapidly moving towards the "positive" side.
It can be said that NVIDIA has created a strong monopoly, with its competitors in no way near the company's shipping volumes. Interesting times are ahead of us, and it will be exciting to see how the industry pans out, especially for NVIDIA.
