Backblaze's New Report Targets at SSD Failure Rates, Seagate Shows a Shocking Figure
Before diving into the statistics, you might wonder the reason behind the "quarterly figures" combined by Backblaze every time. Well, the motive behind it is quite obvious: storage solutions such as SSDs and HDDs have a longer life span compared to the likes of other hardware components.

Moreover, quarterly AFR also witnessed a minimal increase, reaching up to 1.05%.
Moving on to the average failure rate (AFR) of an SSD, Backblaze determines a figure by analyzing "power-on-hours or POH" for the SSDs that encountered a failure during the quarter. The firm reiterates the fact that the runtime of SSDs is directly proportional to its average age, which is why their "fleet" of SSDs reached an average age of 25 months, and this is expected to increase with the passage of time. Lifetime AFR is also a crucial factor categorized as the "true test" for a drive, and in this case, Backblaze saw a minor quarterly increase of 0.9%.
