Intel Meteor Lake Core Ultra 9 CPUs Break Past 5 GHz Clocks & Core Ultra 7 Around 5 GHz 1

Intel's next-gen Meteor Lake CPUs branded as the "Core Ultra" lineup will reportedly feature clock speeds of 5 GHz and beyond.

Intel's Core Ultra 9 & Core Ultra 7 CPUs Operate At 5 GHz & Beyond Single-Core Clock Speeds

The Intel Meteor Lake CPUs are expected to launch later this year with a major launch event being held next month as part of the "Intel On" series. The Innovation event will provide us details about the specific SKUs, the major features, and the first designs that incorporate Intel's latest chips but it looks like Golden Pig Upgrade has some early information to share.

According to the leaker, Intel's 1st Gen Core Ultra CPUs codenamed Meteor Lake will be featuring clock speeds of and beyond 5 GHz. The Core Ultra 7 CPUs (formerly Core i7) are said to reach up to 5 GHz single-core frequencies while the higher-end Core Ultra 9 CPUs (formerly Core i9) will reach speeds beyond 5 GHz. It is not mentioned if these are final clocks or early samples. Based on what we know so far, the Intel Meteor Lake CPUs will max out with a core configuration of 6 P-Cores and 8 E-Cores.

The P-Cores will be utilizing the Redwood Cove core architecture while the E-Cores will be using the Crestmont core architecture. The CPUs will be fabricated on the Intel 4 process node and leverage TSMC's 5nm process node for the iGPU.

Currently, Intel's Core i9-13900H which features a similar core configuration of 6+8 cores has clock speeds rated at up to 5.4 GHz on a single-core and these are an optimized or 2nd gen version of the Alder Lake chips on a more mature node. Considering that Intel 4 (7nm EUV) will be brand new for Intel, having very similar clock speeds of 5.10-5.20 GHz is very decent and we can expect further optimizations down the road. As for the GPU side, it will be rocking speeds north of 2 GHz with 2.2 to 2.4 GHz samples showing up in various databases. Following is a recap of everything we know of Meteor Lake CPUs:

Intel Meteor Lake Mobility CPU Lineup Expected Features:

  • Triple-Hybrid CPU Architecture (P/E/LP-E Cores)
  • Brand New Redwood Cove (P-Cores)
  • Brand New Crestmont (E-Cores)
  • Up To 14 Cores (6+8) For H/P Series & Up To 12 Cores (4+8) For U Series CPUs
  • Intel 4 Process Node For CPU, TSMC For tGPU
  • Intel 'Xe-MTL' GPU With Up To 128 EUs
  • Up To LPDDR5X-7467 & DDR5-5200 Support
  • Up To 96 GB DDR5 & 64 GB LPDDR5X Capacities
  • Intel VPU For AI Inferencing With Atom Cores
  • x8 Gen 5 Lanes For Discrete GPU (Only H-Series)
  • Triple x4 M.2 Gen 4 SSD Support
  • Four Thunderbolt 4 Ports

Intel reaffirmed during its recent earnings call that the company will ramp up the production of its Meteor Lake CPUs in 2H 2023 and there's also going to be the aforementioned Innovation event at the same time in September so look forward to more news very soon.
