Intel Shuts Down “Core” CPU Price Hike Rumor: No Price Change Planned For Now

Reports of Intel planning a price hike as part of a wider restructuring policy had made the rounds recently and we reached out to Intel to confirm or deny the same. Usually Intel does not comment on such rumors - but we were able to get an on-the-record statement categorically denying the existence of any official communication from Intel to its partners.

Intel: we have not initiated any price change to our CPU portfolio at this time

The report originated from a reputable German outlet and cited an official memo from Intel notifying of a price hike across its CPU lineup. Intel's official response is given below:

Generally, Intel does not comment on speculation regarding price changes to its portfolio. However, we can confirm that Intel has not sent the letter described to customers or partners and has not initiated a price change to its CPU portfolio at this time. We have no further comment to share on the matter. -Intel Spokesperson to Wccftech.

Based on this - it is likely that the memo the German outlet received must have originated from a middleman in the supply chain and not directly from Intel. Rest assured that as of this moment the company is not planning any price hikes to its Core CPU portfolio.

Considering the report suggested the price hikes included Alder Lake, Raptor Lake and would also translate to the upcoming Meteor Lake CPUs - this should be a huge relief to prospective DIY PC builders as well as OEMs/ODMs that use Intel CPUs in their products. Intel has already rolled out a price hike last year and recently handed off the NUC product line to ASUS.
