2024 MacBook Pro Refresh Will House Enormous Power Thanks to Apples M3 Pro and M3 Max Chips Based on 3nm Process

14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will feature enhanced performance due to M3 Pro and M3 chips

Apple has busy months ahead with the launch of its new iPhone 15 lineup and the Apple Watch Series 9. The company also announced that its Vision Pro headset will be available to everyone starting next year. While the company says early in the year, we suspect Apple will release it at its Spring event. Other products expected to launch in the first half of next year includes the new iPad Pro models with an OLED panel and the 2024 MacBook Pro models with an M3 Pro and M3 Max chips with enhanced performance capabilities.

M3 Pro and M3 Max MacBook Pro models to launch with major performance and battery life gains due to the new 3nm chips

According to the latest, Apple's M3 Pro and M3 Max MacBook Pro models will launch in 2024. Gurman states that Apple could launch the new M3 Pro and M3 Max MacBook Pro models after the release of the Vision Pro. This is because the Vision Pro houses an M2 chip and it would be inferior to the M3 chip in terms of performance. Moreover, users would not be pleased as the headset costs $3,499 while the base M3 MacBook Air will cost $1,299. Henceforth, the company will see fit to release the Vision Pro and then announce the new M3 MacBooks.

As for the 14-inch and 16-inch models of the MacBook Pro, we are not expecting any major design variations. The company updated the design of its bigger MacBook Pro models in 2021 and it is still too early to expect a major redesign. However, the company could offer variations in the port selection but details are scarce on the subject and the final word rests with Apple.

In terms of performance, the new M3 Pro and M3 Max chips will surprise us. The M3 Pro and M3 Max chips will be based on TSMC's 3nm process which will offer enhanced computational and graphical performance. Furthermore, the chip will also be highly power efficient which means that it will consume less battery life. The M3 Pro will power the 14-inch MacBook Pro while the M3 Max will be available on both 14 and 16-inch versions. However, the highest-end version of the chip will only be offered on the bigger version.

Gurman shared that the 14-inch MacBook Air will feature model number J514 and the 16-inch version will have the model number J516. In terms of performance, we are expecting major performance gains on the machines all thanks to the advanced 3nm fabrication. Other than this, Gurman also mentions that the company will update both models of the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the new M3 chip. Apple is also working on M3 iPad Pro models for next year which is rumored to feature an OLED panel.
