The Apple Silicon Mac Pro has seen its fair share of rumors, and it is safe to say that the company is having some development problems with its first-ever workstation featuring a custom SoC. Now, an update claims that the machine is not expected to be unveiled during WWDC 2023 keynote.
Mac Pro is still scheduled to see a launch this year, but it will not happen a couple of months from now
Not only is the Mac Pro not being treated to the M2 Extreme due to the latter's cancellation, but the Apple Silicon workstation also is not expected to be showcased during the firm’s software-focused keynote. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman was a guest at the MacRumors Show and talked about the arrival of the Mac Pro, stating that while he expected the product to launch this year, he does not believe it will be unveiled at WWDC 2023, which is disappointing to hear.
Fortunately, there are other exciting previews that we should look forward to, such as the unveiling of the AR headset and its dedicated operating system named xrOS. Other than that, there are a multitude of software previews to mark our calendars for, particularly iOS 17, which is scheduled for a release later this year after the iPhone 15 series has officially launched. In the past, Gurman is known to provide near-accurate information regarding Apple’s product launches.
He was the first individual to disclose that the Apple Silicon Mac Pro will feature the same large enclosure as the current generation featuring an Intel processor. Earlier, he predicted that the same workstation would sport a chassis that is half the size of the one being sold at this time on Apple’s website, but it appears that this version will not make it to the mass production line. Also, since the Mac Pro will house a custom SoC, likely the M2 Ultra, it will feature soldered unified RAM, meaning that the memory cannot be upgraded down the line.
It will, however, have swappable storage, but it is unclear if Apple will adopt the industry standard or incorporate proprietary slots, making upgrading difficult. In any case, with the latest update, we believe the Mac Pro will be unveiled in the fourth quarter of this year, and the M2 Ultra possibly materializing alongside it. Though we want the technology giant to announce both much earlier, certain complications mean we cannot always have our wish.
