GPD WIN 4 handheld gaming console released to the public, offers better performance than the Steam Deck playing Hogwarts Legacy
The newest GPD WIN 4 handheld is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor with integrated Radeon graphics. This unique design features a slider that adjusts the screen upwards to reveal a keyboard underneath. The GPD WIN 4 is Windows 11 ready and preinstalled and does offer support for Valve's Steam OS.
Before the recent pre-sale, GPD did conduct an Indiegogo campaign where the company had a starting price of ¥5,569, or $799.
The various versions of the GPD WIN 4 system are:

The new GPD WIN 4 utilizes a six-inch screen that offers 1080p resolution and support for 40 to 60Hz refresh rates. The screen is covered in Corning's Gorilla Glass (now in its fifth generation), and the pixels per inch are rated at 368 PPI. The sliding screen is similar to Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld sliding design, but it is reported that the dispersion of force is improved from Sony's original construction. The ergonomic side grips extend slightly from the overall design to make handling while gaming more comfortable for users.
The GPD WIN 4 offers an optical touch mouse that only activates when pressing the "Enter" button to avoid accidental activation while in use. Inside the handheld system is a six-axis gyroscope, which can play somatosensory games. Dual joysticks, traditional directional, and four-button action buttons are available to users.
The GPD WIN 4 supports dual Type-C ports, so the system can be connected to an external monitor while charging simultaneously. Lighting effects are located on the shoulder buttons, with customization available for the various lighting effects. Lastly, the system supports both M.2 2230 and 2242 SSD specifications for upgrading.
GPD includes a film screen protector, a lanyard, a protective bag to hold the system, and accessories. IT Home reports that the three accessories are given randomly but are most likely available depending on the price point spent by the consumer.
On the social media site BiliBili, the user "Please Xiofengfeng" ran a quick test of the frame rate while playing the new game Hogwarts Legacy, comparing the new GPD WIN 4 to that of the Steam Deck. During the test, the GPD WIN 4 handheld frame rate was between 10-15 frames per second higher than that of Valve's handheld while also remaining cooler during the test.
The temperature during Hogwarts Legacy maintained near 50°C on the GPD WIN 4 while the Steam Deck hovered near the 70°C range. The tests also show a performance comparison between the GPD WIN4 with its standard 15W and the configurable 28W TDP. The system does deliver better FPS but also makes it run slightly warmer. Users can purchase the new GPD WIN 4 from JD.com, starting at ¥4,999.
