Bigben Just Acquired French Studio Spiders (GreedFall, The Technomancer, Bound by Flame)

Bigben Interactive announced the acquisition of French studio Spiders, known to RPG fans for titles like GreedFall (due on September 10th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One), The Technomancer, Bound by Flame, Mars: War Logs and Of Orcs and Men.

The acquisition, to be fully paid in cash, is expected to be completed by early September. The press release mentions how this is yet another step in Bigben’s ‘2022’ growth plan. This is, in fact, the fourth investment made recently by the French publisher, who had previously purchased Cyanide (Styx, Blood Bowl, Call of Cthulhu, and the upcoming Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood), increased its stake in Kylotonn Racing (TT Isle of Man, V-Rally 4, and the upcoming WRC 8), and acquired Eko Software (How to Survive, Warhammer Chaosbane). All of these investments were made into French-based game development studios.

Alain Falc, Chairman and CEO of Bigben, said in a statement:

This acquisition fits perfectly with Bigben’s strategy to increase its know-how in the development of video games in the AA strategic segment. We are delighted to welcome the talents of Spiders who will strengthen our Development unit and participate in new and even more ambitious projects.

Jehanne Rousseau, CEO and co-founder of Spiders, added:

We look forward to joining the Bigben Group, a reference player in the video games industry whose
strategic vision we fully share. Becoming part of the Bigben Group is a unique opportunity to accelerate our development alongside other quality studios, by integrating an environment conducive to the creation of ever more qualitative games.

Rousseau, who’s also a writer for the company’s games (we interviewed her a while ago about GreedFall), will continue to lead Spiders.
