Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Announced for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam; Releases Later This Year

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered for all major platforms has been announced during Square Enix’s 2019 E3 press conference.

Arriving later this year on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam, the FFVIII remaster aims to bring the RPG’s classic story to modern platforms with newly rendered visuals. The remaster will feature updated character models alongside boosters.

We’ve included the official announcement trailer alongside some screenshots below:

Coming in 2019, FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered marks the 20th Anniversary of its original release with a new visual refresh and brings the game’s beloved story to modern platforms: Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. With overhauled visuals, see your favorite characters come to life like never before!

Last year, Square Enix already announced the arrival of Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX and other classic Final Fantasy games for the Switch and Xbox One, but Final Fantasy VIII was missing from that list.

Originally released for the first PlayStation in 1999, the RPG was ported to PC in 2000. The title was re-released globally as a PSOne Classic on the PlayStation Store in 2009, for PlayStation 3 and PSP. A Steam re-release was released in 2013, and as of December 2013, the game has sold more than 8.5 million copies globally.
