Unfortunately for us leakers, Cupertino tech giant Apple has clamped down on hardware leaks for the iPhones. Such leaks were regular before the iPhone X’s launch, but since then, Apple’s precautions seem to have had their intended effects. However, this doesn’t mean that we don’t get to see any leaks for devices before they’re launched. Today, it’s looking as if one such leak for the iPhone 11 has taken place, but before proceeding, we’d advise you to take the information with a grain of salt, even as we provide reasons as to why we think it might be the real deal. Alleged iPhone 11 Display Assembly Leak Shows Some Changes Over Its Predecessor
Today’s leak is the courtesy of Twitter user who goes by the name Mr. White. He’s an Apple collector and underground part seller, having amassed a lot of prototypes of the company’s gadgets over the course of time. He rarely leaks components, but when he does, the leaks are one of a kind. Today we’ve got an image of what’s most likely the display assembly of the iPhone 11. If you’re out of touch with things, then this year, Apple’s rumored to launch the iPhone XR’s sucessor as the iPhone 11. Successors to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS, on the other hand, will be dubbed as the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The display assembly, which you can see below, is similar to the one that iFixit revealed on the iPhone XR. Most of the cables and connectors are similar in both images that we’ve shared below (with the second one courtesy of iFixit), and their form, including bezels, also resembles each other.
However’ if you’re astute then you’ll see that the images are not completely similar. Take a look at the sensor cutout present at the extreme left of the iPhone 11’s alleged display assembly. Then, compare this cutout to the one present in the second image above. This cutout is for the True Depth camera’s dot-projector, and the suspected change suggests that Apple might slightly upgrade the 3D facial recognition tool on its iPhones this year.
The cutout is larger than the one present on Apple’s 2018 iPhones and more dots thrown out by the iPhone 11 will give the smartphone more data points to work with for facial recognition. It’s also been rumored that this year, the iPhones’ Face ID will be able to recongize user’s faces at sharper angles than its predecessor could. Whether this rumored change and the alleged larger dot projector go hand in hand, we’ll find out soon.
