OnePlus 6 & 6T to Get OnePlus 7 Pro’s Zen Mode, but Not Nightscape 2.0

OxygenOS 9.5 is to make its debut with the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. It has a lot of exciting features such as a better screen recorder, more ‘intense’ gaming mode, Nightscape 2.0 and Zen Mode. Zen Mode is OnePlus’ take on Google’s Digital Wellbeing initiative. But, there is a key difference between the two. Digital Wellbeing only ‘encourages’ you to put your phone aside via subtle cues.

Zen Mode, on the other hand, will literally lock you out of all apps and block all notifications. You can still make phone calls and use the camera, though. It is arguably the best solution out there that’ll help with the very real problem of smartphone addiction as it strikes the perfect balance between letting users access the core functions of a phone while cutting out everything else. Like most features, Zen Mode should soon be making its way to older smartphones. For now, it’s just the OnePlus 6T and 6, but we see no reason why it shouldn’t come to the 5 and 5T.

Nightscape 2.0, however, won’t be making its way to older OnePlus devices. Nightscape 2.0 is OnePlus’ version of Night Sight and is custom designed for the OnePlus 7 series. It isn’t quite up to the mark of Night Sight, but it’ll get the job done, for the most part. You’ll still be better off using a Google Camera port for better low-light imagery, though.

Unfortunately, Nightscape 2.0 will be exclusive to the OnePlus 7 series for the foreseeable future. The company says that it can’t make its way to older devices owing to ‘hardware limitations’. There is a possibility that OnePlus may rewrite Nightscape 2.0 for older devices in the future, but that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. Hopefully, the ‘better’ screen recorder and ‘fnatic mode’ trickle their way down to older devices too.
