Huawei Announces List of Phones That Will Get Android Q First

Fragmentation is one of the biggest problems plaguing the Android platform. While some OEMs such as OnePlus and Nokia are quick with their updates, others like Xiaomi and Motorola often lag behind. In that regard, Huawei (and its sub-brand Honor) are relatively better off than the rest. The company does a decent job of keeping their devices updated with the latest version of Android and security patches. As expected, several devices get left behind after a point, but that’s to be expected from a company that releases so many phones.

The third Android Q beta is here for a host of non-Pixel devices. Head over to this link to check if you’re eligible and give it try. It will be several months before we see a stable release of the OS according to Google’s Android Q roadmap. Huawei just put out a list of devices that would EMUI based on Android Q once Google releases the update for its Pixel lineup of smartphones. The Huawei and Honor devices that will receive the update are:

  • Huawei Mate 20
  • Mate 20 Pro
  • Mate 20X
  • Mate 20 RS
  • Huawei P30 Pro
  • Huawei P30
  • Honor View20 (V20)
  • Honor Magic 2

Huawei’s Android fork—EMUI—is one of the more heavily-skinned versions of the operating system. It is host to a lot of features (or gimmicks, depending on who you ask) that are yet to make their way to Stock Android. Huawei has managed to keep EMUI fresh by constantly adding new features with each subsequent version.

The Android Q beta is available for the Mate 20 Pro. If you want to give it a try, download Huawei’s Beta FUT app from this link. Sign in with your Huawei ID and navigate to Join Project>Available projects>HuaweiMate20pro Beta project and you’ll receive the developer preview updates via OTA. For more information, you can refer to the dedicated post on Huawei’s forums.
