Need to listen to your jam on cellular data on the go? Here’s how you enable the option for Apple Music in iOS 12.
Having millions of songs at your disposal is a wonderful thing, thanks to streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. If you are an Apple Music subscriber then you can totally listen to anything on the go as well.
But if you tried listening to songs on cellular data while on the move, you’ll notice that nothing plays at all. Why? Because Apple believes you’ll burn through your data allowance with Apple Music. Obviously, you have a ton of data to spare on music and you can right the wrong straight away by flicking a switch in the Settings app, allowing cellular streaming on the go. You can do it in iOS 12 on your iPhone or iPad, and in today’s guide, we’ll show you how.
1. Launch the Settings app.
2. Select and open Music.
3. Enable the Cellular Data option along with Streaming and High Quality Streaming. Go for the latter if you don’t want to listen to compressed streams while on the go. But remember, this will destroy your data more quickly than usual. Be well aware of this fact before going ahead.
4. Once the features is enabled, launch the Music app, search for a song on Apple Music and just hit play. Your songs will stream just like how it would on WiFi.
It’s somewhat strange how this option is disabled by default. It would have been much better if it was on by default, or just throw a warning that you’re not on WiFi, with the songs playing absolutely normally as they would on WiFi. That’s something I would totally rally behind. But hey, it’s Apple we’re dealing with here, so expect these things around iOS.
If you are always on the go, I would prefer keeping the High Quality Streaming option turned off. The difference between a compressed stream and a regular one is absolutely negligible if you are in a noisy environment like a train or on a walk path. But if you insist on listening to everything in higher quality, then the toggle switch is always available to you.
