How to Change Default Search Engine in Safari for iOS 12

Search engine

Here’s how you can change the default search engine from Google to Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo in Safari for iOS 12.

The ability to search for anything straight from the address bar in Safari is a feature we pretty much make use of on a daily basis on our iPhones or iPads. That search engine is set to Google by default. Did you know that you have the option to change it to Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo? But why would you want to do that? It totally depends on the user. For instance, you’re someone who does not trust the search engine when it comes to privacy, therefore going with something else in the list of options is the way to go. We’ll show you how you can change the default engine to Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo.

1. Pick up your iPhone or iPad and launch the Settings app.

2. Scroll down and find the Safari entry and open it.

3. Now tap on Search Engine.

4. You’ll see a bunch of options here, with the default set to Google. You can switch over to Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo.

5. Once you’ve made your choice, close the Settings app, launch Safari and do a search straight from the address bar. Your searches will now be handled by the new search engine of choice. Pretty neat, right?

Personally, I always go with Google as the default search provider for a number of reasons. After all, it is the best search engine around for finding stuff online as it gives you everything on point. But if you prefer your searches to remain private then you might want to go with something like DuckDuckGo. That is totally your preference at this point. But the fact that we do have a choice is a wonderful thing. We really hope Apple expands the list of search engines in the near future too, giving users more choice when they are searching for something online.

Give other search engines a try, who knows you might actually find a new preference that better suits your needs and the needs of those around you. Every search engine has a unique way of delivering results on the web.
