It’s been a couple of months since Windows 10 took over Windows 7 to lead the desktop operating system market. The latest Windows operating system continues its steady rise, gaining a few points in the last month. Stats published by Netmarketshare suggest that Windows 10 is now sitting at 43.62% of the market share, followed by Windows 7 at 36.52%.
In comparison, last month Windows 10 was at 40.90%, while Windows 7 was at 37.19%, followed by Windows 8.1 at 4.34%, which has also lost some points this month. With Windows 7 hitting its end of service deadline in less than a year, coming months will bring its market share further down, strengthening Windows 10’s lead in the desktop space.
Another, hopefully stronger, Windows 10 version expected to arrive soon
Microsoft is about to release a new version of Windows 10. Version 1903 aka the April 2019 Update is expected to be a bug-free update that will hopefully address the October 2018 Update concerns, which worsened the image of the operating system. The Windows maker had to pull back the October 2018 Update after data loss issues and other problems were reported by the public. While the bugs have since been addressed, over half of Windows 10 users still refuse to install the update.
October 2018 Update’s adoption rate is in stark contrast to the April 2018 Update, which was the fastest growing Windows 10 update. Microsoft would certainly be hoping to see a similar adoption rate and user enthusiasm with the April 2019 Update.
