Realme 1, 2, 2 Pro, C1, and U1 will get Android Pie with ColorOS 6 in June

Oppo branched off Realme as a separate sub-brand in late July 2018. Since then, Realme has gone on to release several phones in the entry level and early mid-range price segments in developing nations, and India mainly. The brand is gaining popularity with every phone release, as many consumers see it as an alternative of Xiaomi and MIUI. While Realme’s value proposition may not be as strong as Xiaomi, it definitely is strong enough for the brand to stand on its own.

Even though the brand has branched off from Oppo, it still continues to use the parent company’s flavor of Android in the form of ColorOS. Oppo’s ColorOS recently received a major upgrade in the form of ColorOS 6, bringing in changes like a long-awaited app drawer, swipe gestures and more. Oppo confirmed that the new update will be available to key smartphones in Oppo’s portfolio, and now Realme has announced that several of its devices will also receive the update alongside their Android Pie update.

The Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro, Realme C1, and Realme U1 are all slated to get Android Pie and ColorOS 6 in June 2019. The company has not specified any specific dates or order in which these devices will get the update. The rollout will be in stages for each device, so users will have to be patient.

In addition to this major update, Realme has also specified the timeline for their security patch rollout. The Realme 1, 3 and U1 will receive an update with April 2019’s security patch in April; while the Realme 2, 2 Pro and C1 will receive May 2019’s security patch in May. OTA and firmware links will be posted when the updates are ready and rolling out.

Realme has also been trying to become more developer friendly and receptive to the needs of the community. Their decision to allow bootloader unlocking on several devices has been appreciated.
