The NPD group has released its US sales data for the month of March 2019 which reveals that Nintendo Switch sales continue strong.
As reported by NPD’s game industry analyst Mat Piscatella, hardware spending dropped 15% compared to a year ago and first quarter hardware spending declined 13% to $759 million. Despite overall drops in hardware sales, Nintendo’s hybrid platform keeps selling strong and became the best-selling hardware platform in the US for the month of March 2019, thereby outselling both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In addition, the Switch was the best-selling platform across the first quarter of 2019 in both units and dollars.
The NPD analyst notes that the Switch keeps doing exceptionally well across hardware, software and accessories in the US and believes that the platform’s momentum won’t be slowing down anytime soon.

For the month of March 2019, Ubisoft’s The Division 2 topped the sales chart and became the second best-selling game of this year, only being beaten by Kingdom Hearts III, which is now the best-selling installment in the franchise’s history with lifetime sales now exceeding those of 2002’s Kingdom Hearts. Of course, Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts III was released in January of this year, while Ubisoft’s The Division 2 released on March 15.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was the 2nd best-selling game of March 2019 in the US, while the 3rd spot is being taken by MLB 19: The Show. According to Piscatella, launch month sales of MLB 19: The Show are the highest in the franchise’s history, and have set a new all-time record for a baseball genre game.
