Since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015 there have been plenty of rumors about the next triple-A DC Comics game. Batman: Arkham Origins developer WB Games Montreal is said be working on two titles, one of which is likely Batman-related, the other of which may be focus on some sort of team (possibly Suicide Squad). Meanwhile, Batman: Arkham creators Rocksteady Studios are rumored to be toiling away on something Superman related. Of course, none of this is confirmed, and a lot of the info coming from Warner Bros. Interactive has been pretty garbled, so take it all with a hefty grain of salt.
Well, now we have a new leak courtesy of 4Chan (and reposted by the folks at ResetEra). The purported leak is of an internal marketing/PR email for an unannounced WB Interactive DC Comics game. The email is full of redactions, but, apparently, the game is set to be announced on June 4 and will launch sometime in early 2020. Check out the info for yourself below (click the image for full resolution).
While a lot of key details are blacked out, we can gather this will be a DC-Universe-spanning game, featuring multiple characters and locations, including Gotham and Star City. The game will also feature online multiplayer, city hubs, loot, and “raids,” making it sound like a live-service-driven Destiny-like experience featuring DC superheroes. Again, take this with a major grain of salt – 4Chan is the source, after all – but based on past rumors, this seems relatively plausible. Also, folks have pointed out that past WB Interactive marketing leaks related to Mortal Kombat 11 featured a very similar email format and writing style. Make of that what you will.
So, what are your thoughts on all this? Is it the real deal? Are you excited if it is? I’m not a huge Destiny fan, but maybe I’d be more into a DC superhero version of Destiny. Hopefully we’ll learn more on June 4.
