Apple is potentially working on a new unified app which will combine Find My Friends and Find My iPhone apps. The app is codenamed as “Green Torch” and it is currently being tested by the company’s engineers. The app will be available on iOS as well as macOS and it will also include a new “Find Network” feature which will allow users to track their device even if it is not connected to the network. Let’s dive in to see some more details on the matter.
Apple To Revamp Find My iPhone And Find My Friends In A Unified App
The Find Network feature looks to be quite interesting as it will track the device without a network. Apart from this, the unified app will allow individuals to track the position of everyone along with their devices, like the AirPods. Users will also be able to put their misplaced devices in “Lost Mode” or remotely play a sound on it, something that is currently available on the Find My iPhone app.
Furthermore, Apple also seems to be working on a new hardware product as well that goes alongside the new app. The product will allow individuals to track anything that possesses a new tag dubbed “B3898”. Users will receive a notification on their device if the attached object gets too far. Apart from this, the tag will store contact information of the owner which can be read by an iPhone. When it does, the owner of the tag will automatically receive a notification on their iPhone.
At this point in time, there’s no word when Apple will launch the tech and what it will cost. Possibly, the unified app will be part of iSO 13, set to launch in the Sept/Oct time frame. There will be more to the story, so be sure to stay tuned in for more details.
This is all for now, folks. What are your thoughts on the matter? How useful is the new app for you? Let us know in the comments.
