The Nokia 5.1 is now getting the Android Pie update

Many people think of HMD Global as a small company. The folks who are licensing the Nokia brand for Android smartphones are pumping out devices as quickly as some major OEMs out there. Some have felt that the company is biting off more than they can chew, but they seem to be able to keep up so far. A couple of months ago we got an official roadmap for HMD Global’s Android Pie update schedule and the Nokia 5.1 was included in a batch of devices for Q1 2019. We’re getting really close to the end of this first quarter of the year, but they came through for Nokia 5.1 owners as the Android Pie update is rolling out right now.

We’ve seen a number of new Android OEMs popping up lately. Some have been spin-off sub-brands from other companies while others have started from scratch. Many were expecting HMD Global to go the route of Essential and just release one smartphone when they first came onto the scene. However, they have released an impressive number of devices since licensing the Nokia name. As a whole though, they are still new to the Android industry and many of their new customers put their faith into the company when it comes to OTA updates.

We were told that the Nokia 6Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 2.1 were all going to be updated to Android Pie before the end of this first quarter. The Nokia 3.1 began receiving the update just a few days ago and the Nokia 3.1 Plus began receiving the updates toward the end of last month. The Nokia 6 and 2.1 schedule was reached late in February as well and now the Nokia 5.1 is able to join the club too.
