Last year, both the flagships series released by Samsung, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9, failed to perform as expected due to various factors such as lack of groundbreaking features and slowing smartphone market. Samsung flagships usually receive a significant update every two years, and the Galaxy S10 series is indeed not just a marginal upgrade over its predecessor. The series has received a great response from the market and per a new report, this momentum is expected to continue until June.
The Galaxy S10 Is Expected to Reach the 10 Million Mark in Just 3 Weeks, Something Which Took the Huawei Mate 20 More Than 4 Months
According to Samsung, the pre-orders for the Galaxy S10 in the UK and the U.S. were more than that of any other Galaxy S series phone, although no figures were revealed. Similarly, the phone is reportedly doing well in China, despite the country’s dismal macroeconomic conditions. Supply chain insiders are predicting that Samsung will sell 20 million units of the Galaxy S10 series during the first half of the year. Galaxy S10 is expected to hit the 10 million mark by the end of this month and it is being speculated that the remaining 10 million units will be shipped out in the next three months. Looking at this trend alone, it can be assumed that the sales momentum will slow down eventually.
However, given the current situation of the smartphone market, 20 million units is actually a promising figure. The estimated figure is nearly 1 million more than the shipments of the Galaxy S9 during the first half of 2018. Parts suppliers expect Samsung to sell between 35 million to 38 million units of the Galaxy S10. Last year, the South Korean behemoth was able to sell 35 million units of the Galaxy S9.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is a little more optimistic about the tenth anniversary Galaxy flagship as he expects sales between 40 to 45 million units. The situation can get even better if the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Note 10 get a similar market response and contribute to Samsung’s bottom line, which has been worsening in recent years.
Meanwhile, Huawei will have to work harder to chase the number one spot, as it took the company’s Mate 20 series more than 4 months to reach the 10 million mark. In less than two weeks, the Chinese giant is going to release its next flagship, the P30 Pro and it would apparently be a camera beast. Let’s see if it’s able to receive a better response than the Galaxy S10 in the coming months.
