Xiaomi is holding a launch event in India, scheduled for 28th February 2019. The company has been teasing the Redmi Note 7 as well as a 48MP rear camera setup through its social media channels for a while now, giving everyone the idea that the Redmi Note 7, as it existed in China, will be coming to India at this event. We also know that Xiaomi has been working on a Redmi Note 7 Pro with the 48MP Sony IMX586 rear camera sensor, but it was unclear if this would be the phone that would be launching in India as the phone hadn’t been launched in China yet. The recent update to the situation is that the Redmi Note 7 Pro has passed through TENAA certification in China, and that Xiaomi through its Redmi sub-brand would be launching two phones at the Indian event as leaked renders suggest. The situation, however, appears to be a bit more complicated than this, as we’ll explain.
First, let us look at the TENAA listing for the Redmi Note 7 Pro:

The TENAA listing for this device does not explicitly call it the “Redmi Note 7 Pro”, but the device has been widely rumored to launch in China soon. Hence, this listing for the Redmi device with model number M1901F7BE is very likely to be the Redmi Note 7 Pro China variant. Redmi has launched the Redmi Note 7 China variant with the 48MP Samsung GM1 Sensor in China earlier, so this new device would be bringing in the Sony IMX586 sensor to China.
Things started getting complicated when device renders of two Redmi devices were leaked by Ishan Agarwal. Ishan’s leak pointed out that Xiaomi would be releasing two devices at its Indian launch event: the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro. The Redmi Note 7 is expected in 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB variants and will come in Red, Blue and Black colors; whereas the Redmi Note 7 Pro is expected in a 4GB + 64GB variant only initially, with Gradient Red, Gradient Blue and Black colors.
The render for the Note 7 (Indian variant) has the wordings “AI Camera” and “1.25μm f/2.2 PDAF” printed near the camera, while the render for the Note 7 Pro (Indian variant) has the wordings “48MP” and “AI Dual Camera” mentioned on it.
Why does one model explicitly mention 48MP while the other mentions camera specifications that do not match with the device as was launched in China? To recap, the Redmi Note 7 (China) came with a 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor with 0.8μm pixels and f/1.8 aperture, which is not inline with the camera spec printed on the device in the leaked render of the Redmi Note 7 (India).
Ishan further attempts to clarify that the information shared by him pertains only to the Indian variant of these devices. Further, the Redmi Note 7 (India) is expected to bear model number M1901F7C, while the Redmi Note 7 Pro (India) is expected to bear model number M1901F7B.
Still confused about what is going? We are too.
One thing is clear from the situation: There will be a difference between the Redmi Note 7 lineup as it exists in China and in India. Information gleaned from the leaked renders puts the Redmi Note 7 (India) to be similar to the Mi Play that was launched in China, rather the Redmi Note 7 (China). Unverified rumors suggest that the Redmi Note 7 (China) could be rebranded into the Redmi Note 7 Pro (India), indicating that the 48MP camera on the Pro in India would be the Samsung sensor instead of the Sony sensor. However, please note that all of this is mere speculation at this stage.
