The Honor View 20 is Honor’s latest international flagship phone. It’s the successor to 2018’s Honor View 10, and it’s one of the best value-for-money affordable flagships users can buy. Its list of specifications includes the HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC with Mali-G76MP10 GPU, 6GB/8GB of RAM with 128GB/256GB storage, 6.4-inch Full HD+ (2310×1080) 19:9 IPS LCD with display hole, 48MP rear camera, 25MP front camera, and a 4,000mAh battery. The phone ships with EMUI 9 on top of Android 9 Pie, and it’s available for sale in India, Europe, and other international markets.
We have praised the Honor View 20’s camera performance in our camera review. Now, an update is rolling out for Honor View 20 users in India (PLT-AL10) in the form of software version 9.0.1.129 (C675E8R1P4), based on Magic UI 2.0.1. (Magic UI is mostly the same as EMUI for now, although Honor states that it will differentiate its UI more with new updates.) This update brings the February security patch, and also adds support for ViLTE calling (Video over LTE).
Video over LTE is a feature that lets users make video calls directly over LTE without needing a separate app such as Google Duo, WhatsApp, or any other video calling app. It requires operating system-level support as well as carrier support. In India, users can make ViLTE calls using Jio on compatible phones. Honor also states that this feature was one of the most widely requested features by users. Therefore, the company will be providing it to other Honor phone soon. In the changelog, video performance in calls is also said to be optimized in “certain scenarios.”
The update also improves filming smoothness, which refers to video stabilization. (In our camera quality review, we praised the Honor View 20’s EIS system.) It’s also said to improve the “natural appearance of colors when using the rear camera in portrait mode,” according to Honor. Finally, the update brings improvements to touchscreen sensitivity.
Honor states that the update will be rolled out in batches. Users can check the Software Update section in their device’s settings menu to manually check for the update.
