Samsung denies claims that the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ ships with 6GB RAM

The Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ were both announced at Samsung Unpacked earlier this week. Both devices pack the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820, internal storage starting from 128GB up to 1TB, beautiful QHD Dynamic AMOLED displays, 3.5mm headphone jacks (!), IP68 dust and water resistance, and at least 8GB of RAM. However, it’s this last component that’s been a topic of discussion as of late. Oddly, many users, including our very own Max Weinbach, discovered Galaxy S10 models with 6GB of RAM, contradicting Samsung’s press release and specification sheets. Even worse was that some users on Reddit discovered their pre-order listings had changed from 8 to 6GB RAM. This situation obviously concerned current and prospective buyers of the latest Samsung flagship, so we’ve been watching things develop to learn what was going on.

First, some users noticed that the official product listings by the company had contradictory specification sheets. Apparently, Samsung listed the 128GB and 512GB Galaxy S10 and 128GB Galaxy S10+ as having 6 GB RAM. Max then found that demo units of the Galaxy S10 and S10+ had 6 GB of RAM, as he tweeted immediately after the event.

According to Samsung representatives, though, Galaxy S10 and S10+ models with 6GB RAM simply do not exist. AndroidPolice reached out to Samsung to make clarify the matter. The Samsung representative is confident that all Galaxy S10 and S10+ units will ship with at least 8GB of RAM. The only model with 6GB RAM is the cheaper Samsung Galaxy S10e.

As for why there are demo units with 6GB RAM, we don’t know the reason. It’s possible the company initially intended for the S10 and S10+ to start with 6GB RAM and even produced models with that hardware, only to later decide to ship all devices with at least 8GB RAM. If so, then it would make sense for Samsung to repurpose those initial units as demo devices. That’s just one possibility, though. Regardless, you should rest assure that Samsung isn’t lying to you about the specification sheet.
