Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X update lets you take pictures in the AI color mode

Huawei’s best of the best is generally showcased in their Mate series and that’s what we saw last year with the Huawei Mate 20 and its multiple variants. Two of these variants have received extra attention since release and both of them have received a new update that is leveraging a number of its features. This particular feature is showing up in version 9.0.0.195 of EMUI for multiple people who own the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Huawei Mate 20 X. It’s using the AI color mode that people have enjoyed when using this phone but now lets you take pictures with it.

We went hands-on with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro late last year and saying it’s a beast of a smartphone is a bit of an understatement. Since they were launched, the devices in this series have received a lot of attention. Even post-launch, Huawei has supported these devices with a number of updates including the new Super Macro Mode that we highlighted for the Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X just late week. This week, a new update is rolling out that bring these devices to version 9.0.0.195 of EMUI and it comes with a new feature for these two special variants.

This update was first brought to our attention thanks to XDA Senior Member mscion in our Mate 20 X forum and they were nice enough to include a screenshot of the update (which is embedded down below). We were then able to find an example of this feature thanks to an ePrice review (as shown above). The AI color mode is something that has been included in both of these devices, but it was only for recording videos. Now, the mode can extract colors when you want to simply take a photograph as well.

Note: Huawei has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloader of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and X can’t be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
