Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models later this year with a wide range of changes in terms of design. The standard models are slated to boast Dynamic Island, similar to the 'Pro' models. A leaker now suggests that the entire iPhone 15 lineup will come with a USB-C port and the base model of the iPhone 15 model will feature an upgraded 256GB of storage capacity.
The entire iPhone 15 lineup will come with a USB-C port instead of Lightning but only iPhone 15 Pro models will start with 256GB of base storage configuration
The iPhone 15 Pro models have rested in the rumor mill for a while now. It was initially coined that the devices will come with solid-state Volume and Power buttons. However, Apple scrapped its plans due to production issues, and the solid-state buttons were slated to be reserved for next year's iPhone 16 Pro. However, the company does have plans to replace the long-running Mute Switch on the iPhone with an Apple Watch Ultra-like Action Button. A leaker suggests on Twitter that the base model of the iPhone 15 Pro will start with 256GB of storage while the entire lineup will house a USB-C port.
The leaker mentions that only the iPhone 15 Pro models will start with 256GB of storage capacity. This means that the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will boast the same 128GB of storage, similar to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 models. If this is true, users of the base model of the iPhone 15 Pro will be able to use the ProRes 4K video at 30 fps. Currently, the base model of the iPhone 14 Pro with 128GB of storage does not have the option to shoot 4K ProRes video. Users have to upgrade to 256GB of storage capacity to make use of the higher-quality format.
Furthermore, the leaker also suggests that Apple will offer a USB-C port on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models. This is another major addition that both models will share alongside the inclusion of Dynamic Island on the standard models. Apple is potentially opting to use USB-C instead of Lightning due to pressure imposed by the EU and other regions.
There are certain benefits that USB-C could offer such as faster charging and data transfer speeds on the iPhone. However, Apple could offer its version of the USB-C which means that it could cap the charging speeds and data transfer speeds on the device. Additionally, the company could offer its proprietary USB-C cables which will enable faster speeds. Take note that these are mere speculations at this point as the final word rests with Apple.
