Intel Granite Rapids-D CPUs Gets Spotted For the First Time Will Replace Ice Lake-D

Intel's Granite Rapids-D Gets Revealed For the First Time, Will Replace Ice Lake-D Processors 1

Intel's Granite Rapids-D Xeon CPUs officially surface for the first time, according to a support document obtained by the media outlet Computer Base.

Intel Granite Rapids-D to Feature Intel 3 Manufacturing Process With Significant Performance Uplifts

For those unaware, the Xeon D processors are currently under the Ice Lake-D lineup, and the new Granite Rapids-D family is expected to replace Ice Lake. Moreover, it is revealed that the upcoming processors will be based on Intel 3 fabrication technology, which comes with various improvements in crucial data center applications such as high-performance libraries. The Intel 3 process node has generational optimization, providing an 18% performance per watt gain from Intel 4.

Generally, the Intel Xeon D lineup doesn't feature a high core count and is suited for less-intensive applications when compared to running databases. They are ideal for home networking and computing use. Apart from the Granite Rapids-D, Intel is also expected to release two other variations, Granite Rapids-AP and Granite Rapids-SP, which were recently pictured in two different leaks.

The Intel 6th Gen Granite Rapids-SP/AP CPUs CPUs will utilize different chip designs. The Granite Rapids-SP/AP chips will also be based on the "Intel 3" process node and take advantage of the brand-new Redwood Cove cores, which are expected to deliver a significant performance uplift over existing Golden Cove and Raptor Cove P-Cores. The Granite Rapids-D will also be making use of the same Redwood Cove P-cores that are used by the rest of the two Granite Rapids families.

The actual release date for the upcoming Granite Rapids-D lineup isn't specific yet, although it is expected to release around the end of 2024. The standard Granite Rapids-SP Xeon CPUs are also expected to launch in the second half of 2024 whereas the E-Core-only Sierra Forest will launch in the first half of 2024. Expect more information in the coming months.
