In celebration of Prime Day 2023 (set for Tuesday, July 11th), Amazon announced that Prey is the first of a series of classic PC games redeemable for free by Prime Gaming subscribers.
To be clear, Prey is the 2017 game made by Arkane Austin, not the original 2006 title made by Human Head Studios. Despite the pre-release title controversy, with ex Arkane Austin studio head Raphael Colantonio later claiming Bethesda had basically forced the studio to call it Prey, the game turned out to be a real gem, offering a unique combination of immersive simulation, RPG, first-person shooter, and Metroidvania genres on the background of the eerie atmosphere of space station Talos I.
After the release, Prey received two expansions. Mooncrash focused on delivering a procedurally generated rogue-like inspired mode, whereas Typhon Hunter added an asymmetrical multiplayer mode where one player controlled protagonist Morgan Yu and five other players could control the shapeshifting Typhon aliens known as Mimics.
This isn't the first time Prey has been given away as a freebie. It already happened in May 2022 via the Epic Games Store. However, in case you missed that opportunity, you can now add the game to your GOG library (provided you've got an active Prime Gaming subscription, of course).
Beyond Prey, Amazon is also offering Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition starting on June 27th, Shovel Knight: Showdown from July 6th, and STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed from July 10th, all of which will be unlocked through the Amazon Games app.
That is on top of June's regular list of freebies (Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition, Sengoku 2, Mutation Nation, Over Top, Autonauts, Roguebook, The Super Spy, Top Hunter, SteamWorld Dig 2, Revita, Once Upon a Jester, Soccer Brawl, and Gems of Destiny: Homeless Dwarf).
As usual, Amazon is also offering bonus in-game content to its Prime Gaming subscribers. Members can start redeeming 5+ Tier skips for Overwatch 2 today, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 players can unlock the Track Rivals Bundle starting tomorrow. Diablo IV fans can look forward to the Brackish Fetch Mount Bundle, available starting July 6th, while Pokémon GO players may access an exclusive Timed Research, a set of tasks that challenges players and offers special rewards ( including a Pokémon GO Fest T-shirt for the player’s avatar as a reward) from July 10th.
