Apple announced the new 15-inch MacBook Aie at its WWDC 2023 event recently and the machine has been pretty well received. While there are a plethora of similarities between the 15-inch and 13.6-inch MacBook Air models, the company made sure that the latest model feels brand-new. One of the major changes that the company introduced was the bigger display. To house the bigger display, the company made numerous changes inside the chassis, which includes a bigger battery. With a bigger body, the 15-inch MacBook Air could have housed an even bigger battery with a capacity close to the 16-inch MacBook Pro. However, Apple decided to go with a lightweight design.

15-Inch MacBook Air could have utilized its internal space for a bigger battery compared to its size

The new 15-inch MacBook Air and the 16-inch MacBook Pro are one of Apple's biggest notebooks. While the 15-inch MacBook Air is slightly smaller in every way, Apple could have increased the battery capacity further. YouTuber Max Tech revealed in his latest teardown of the bigger MacBook Air that the machine features space on both sides of the battery.

In terms of size and dimensions, the 15-inch MacBook Air is slightly smaller, coming in at 0.45 x 13.40 x 9.35 inches compared to the 0.66 x 14.01 x 9.77 inches of the 16-inch MacBook Pro. While the height of the MacBook Pro is significantly bigger, the width and depth are pretty close. Henceforth, the company could have incorporated a slightly bigger battery. For reference, the MacBook Air features a 66.5-watt-hour battery while the MacBook Pro houses a 100-watt-hour battery. In comparison, the 15-inch MacBook Air's battery is more or less similar to the 14-inch MacBook Pro's battery capacity at 70-watt hours.

It was recently reported that the Logic board on the 15-inch MacBook Air is smaller than the one on the 13.6-inch MacBook Air. While the company could have redesigned the internals to fit a bigger battery, it saw fit to upgrade the speaker setup. Overall, it can be seen that the company went with a lightweight approach. Take note that the battery life on the 15-inch model is the same as the 13.6-inch MacBook Air. However, the 16-inch MacBook Pro's battery is slightly better with 22 hours of Apple TV app move playback in contrast to 18 hours on the MacBook Air.

Take note that these are mere speculations and the company could have its reasons to opt for a lightweight design. Furthermore, the machine's thickness also plays a major role as it could potentially allow thicker stacks of batteries to be placed on top of each other. We will be covering more details on the latest machines, so be sure to stick around.
