12VHPWR Power Connector Melts Again, This Time From The PSU End! 1

The 12VHPWR connection burning saga doesn't appear to be over yet, as a Reddit user now reports a melted connector at the power supply side.

Reddit User Reports 12VHPWR Cable Meltdown From the Power Supply Side, When Will This End?

Reddit user Shiftyeyes67k posted images of the burned 16-pin connector at BeQuiet Dark Power 13 1000W power supply. Through the images shared, it can be seen that the top row of the power connector is completely melted, while the bottom row is less damaged. The burnt marks are also evident on the power supply side at the PCIe 5.0 connection.

The 12VHPWR connector melting issues started with the release of NVIDIA's RTX 4090. These connectors were a new standard in the industry, and several users started to report incidents of their cables melting. NVIDIA ironically blamed the incidents were due to user error and that the cables weren't connected to the slot entirely, which led to power disparities and eventually meltdowns. The current burning issue may also be due to similar problems; however, by the looks of it, it does lead to the company's fault.

It should be noted that till now, only one case has been reported for the 12VHPWR connector getting melted at the power supply side. Several reasons could lead to this, such as manufacturing fault or user negligence, although nothing has been confirmed yet. Tom's Hardware did reach out to BeQuiet asking for a statement on the incident, and here is what they had to say:

This is a unique case; we already have contacted the customer to learn more. Our brand is known for highest quality standards, so we treat this seriously and have initiated an investigation.

The company also advises consumers to reach out in case they encounter such incidents. We also have compiled a connection guide for new consumers using the 12VHPWR connector for the first time. We hope that this issue doesn't escalate and that BeQuiet addresses the problem causing the burning in their future units. This is the very reason that MSI has color-coded the adapter so that users know if the connector is properly installed on both the PSU and GPU side.
