Ubisoft Massive's upcoming open-world Star Wars game is seemingly closer around the corner than initially thought with Ubisoft targeting a release in early 2024.
At least, that's what Kotuku now reports based on information coming from sources familiar with Ubisoft's plans. In its most recent financial earnings, the French publisher said that it plans to release several major titles during its next fiscal year, including Assassin's Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Rainbow Six Mobile, Skull and Bones, The Crew Motorfest, The Division Resurgence, XDefiant, and a 'large' unannounced title. As now being reported by Kotaku, this 'large game' is in fact Ubisoft Massive's open-world Star Wars game. Further in Kotaku's article, it's mentioned that the Star Wars title could end up slipping into the publisher's next Fiscal Year (April 2024-March 2025) but the publisher's current plan is in early 2024.
The news about Ubisoft Massive and Lucasfilm working on a new open-world Star Wars title broke in January 2021 with Lucasfilm Games announcing that the title is being led by The Division's former associate creative director, Julian Gerighty. “The Star Wars galaxy is an amazing source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium”, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said upon the announcement. “Building new worlds, characters and stories that will become lasting parts of the Star Wars lore is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before.”
Back in December of last year, Massive Entertainment revealed that it was already looking for playtesters, suggesting that the team had, at least, a playable product at hand. Earlier this year, Ubisoft Massive teased news for its Star Wars project with Gerighty taking to Twitter to say that 2023 will be "huge" for the open-world Star Wars title.
