Apple’s AR Headset Operating System Name Shows Up In App Store Connect, Giving Last-Minute Hints Of What To Expect During WWDC

Apple AR headset operating system

A multitude of reports have mentioned that Apple’s first AR headset will be running the company’s dedicated operating system named xrOS. The firm has also filed the trademark and wordmark of the software bearing the same name, and now the App Store Connect managed to divulge the term thanks to a neat little trick pulled by a developer.

Using App Store Connect, an app was submitted to verify for xrOS, but it was rejected and revealed some key information

Even though previous reports have revealed the ‘xrOS’ name time and time again, it was only a matter of time before a platform belonging to Apple spilled the beans. MacRumors spotted on the social network Mastodon that a developer named Steve Troughton-Smith actually tricked the App Store Connect in providing the name of the operating system that will run on the AR headset. He submitted an app that was tailor-made for the head-mounted wearable.

For those that do not know, App Store Connect is a platform where developers and publishers manage their apps on the App Store. App Store Connect serves as a hub for all app-related activities, letting developers submit all apps that are found on the company’s various operating systems, such as iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and others.

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith managed to trick App Store Connect into telling it the name of the operating system name of the Apple AR headset

Not surprisingly, the platform rejected Steve Troughton-Smith’s app, but in doing so, it provided the name xrOS with an error stating ‘Incorrect Platform. You included the xros arm64 executable in your ios bundle. Only ios executables can be included.’ This will likely be the name that Apple previews during its WWDC keynote, which is said to kick off on June 5.

In related news, alongside the xrOS trademark, Apple also filed for the ‘xrProOS’ trademark. Sadly, we do not know what its function is, but we have a hunch that it will be used for running professional applications such as Final Cut Pro, as the AR headset has been rumored to support that functionality.
