Unrecord is a Startlingly-Real-Looking “Bodycam FPS” Being Made with Unreal Engine 5

Unrecord

True innovation in the first-person shooter genre is relatively rare, but it looks like the upcoming indie game Unrecord may be bringing something genuinely new to the table. The game is a tactical shooter, in which the action is shown from the perspective of a police bodycam. In addition to intense, grounded firefights, the game will actually feature some immersive sim elements, as you can talk to people, choose dialogue options that will lead to different story paths, and more.

But ultimately, it’s the game’s look that sets Unrecord apart. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game is impressive on a technical level. While you could screenshot any individual moment and say “yeah, that looks like a video game” in motion the combination of the impressive lighting, reflections, and unpredictable camera makes the game looking startlingly real. But hey, don’t take my word for it! Check out the first gameplay trailer for Unrecord, below.

Impressive stuff! I do wonder how fun the game will actually be to play, as excessive camera shaking can often be often be an issue in shooters. That said, there’s no denying its eye-catching. Need to know more about the game? Here’s the official description for Unrecord…

“Unrecord is a tactical shooter where players can expect an immersive and narrative experience. Unrecord features complex dialogues, innovative gameplay mechanics, tough moral dilemmas, and a unique shooting system. The storyline in Unrecord can be compared to a detective novel or a thriller. The player will have to investigate several criminal cases and confront a diverse cast of characters. The game's plot and presentation will be central to the gameplay experience, and players can anticipate a range of gameplay sequences as well as numerous plot twists.”

Unrecord is coming to PC and unspecified other platforms. The game is currently without a release window, but developer DRAMA says it’s currently in “pre-production.” You can wishlist the game on Steam. What do you think? Interested to see how the game turns out or does it seem like little more than a cool-looking gimmick?
