The final gameplay trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was showcased today during the Star Wars Celebration. In this trailer, we're shown the evolution of this series as Cal Kestis takes a stand against the Empire. The trailer also comes packed with an exclusive interview with Respawn Entertainment's game director Stig Asmussen from StarWars.com about the highlights from the trailer and other cool tidbits to learn about this upcoming game.
You can watch the trailer below:
Asmussen talked about how Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's gameplay is a huge step in the game's evolution and how the team at Respawn is looking for new ways to tell stories while implementing the system called 'Characters in Gameplay' and other dynamic features that the player will have access to during combat.
We always are looking for new ways to tell story, and we wanted to make sure that we could carry some of these companions into gameplay. That's why we came up with a system called ‘Characters in Gameplay,’ and it's featured in the trailer. It's really about experiencing how Cal and his companions — like Bode Akuna, like Merrin — fight side by side together, how they solve puzzles, and negotiate the different planets that they're traveling to.
A lot of what we've shown so far, there's these cinematic flourishes, like take downs, that you see in regards to combat. But I will highlight that there's also assist mechanisms that the player can use to kind of call upon their friends in the heat of battle with a button tap, and these unleash special attacks. We've got it limited with a cool down, but using these types of buddy tools will help the players negotiate tricky scenarios in combat.
Stig also commented on the way the creative process behind the game's enemies works. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor allowed the team to build upon different species, implement them for combat challenges, and create more emblematic moments like the ones we saw during Jedi: Fallen Order. He also expressed that he wants players to have fun with the title and that the main goal will be to provide a fun experience for players.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is set to release on April 28th on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S worldwide. We recently learned that the game would make some PC users wince as the file size has been confirmed to be over 155GB. It was also reported that the game will have precompiled shaders on that version.
