Night School has finally confirmed the release date for Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals. The game is going to be released on July 12, with pre-orders available right now. The announcement was dropped during today's Nintendo Indie World Showcase. The release date follows the previously found leaked release date, which was found in the PlayStation Store database. As such, it seems like everything is going to be fine for the upcoming release.
You can watch the trailer that reveals the release date for the game below:
Oxenfree 2 follows the story of Riley Poverly, an environmental researcher who returns to her hometown Camena to investigate unnaturally occurring radio frequency signals causing disturbances in electronic equipment. She soon discovers a long history of ghostly happenings on the nearby Edwards Island and becomes entangled in a frightening, supernatural mystery.
The game will bring Night School's dialogue system, as seen in the previous entry. In my preview, I noted that the real appeal behind Night School games is the dialogue system, as it's the most character-driven and quirky aspect of it:
I was really happy to see the quirky dialogue between the characters coming back. The real appeal of Oxenfree was the many dialogue choices that players could use to interact with the world and their surroundings. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals seems to be a promising endeavor so far. The dialogue is full of personality once again, and the choices the player makes are just as important as they were in the first game.
It's also worth noting that developer Night School Studio (which also released the game Afterparty in between the two Oxenfree titles) was acquired by Netflix in September 2021 as part of its push into the gaming market. Going back to Oxenfree 2, the game will include support for various languages, including English, Spanish, Hebrew, Chinese, and other languages for both its subtitles and interface.
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is going to be available on July 12 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC on Steam for $19.99. The game will also be available on mobile devices on Netflix and will be included with all memberships without any ads, additional fees, or in-app purchases.
