LG Working on Hybrid OLED Panels for 2024 iPad Pro, Making Them Thinner With Reduced Production Costs

Apple OLED iPad Pro Launch

Apple is developing new OLED technology for future models of the iPad Pro. According to a new report, Apple will launch new iPad Pro models next year with hybrid OLED panel technology which is slated to be quite thin. The essential components are being developed by LG that will result in an overall thinner profile of the device. Scroll down to read more details on the subject.

Apple to launch iPad Pro models with a hybrid OLED panel next year, rumored to be thinner than the current models

Apple is planning to redesign the iPad Pro as the current-gen models have featured the same design for years. Even though Apple has upgraded the 'Pro' models with powerful internals, the general design language has remained the same since 2018. We have previously heard that the company is working on new iPad Pro models with a glass back. A new report by The Elec suggests that 2024 iPad Pro models will feature a hybrid OLED panel with a thinner profile.

If you are not familiar, the OLED panel will conjoin the OLED glass substrate with the flexible thin-film encapsulation or TFE. This will make the display lighter and thinner than the OLED panels that we are familiar with. Ultimately, this will make future iPad Pro thinner than current models while maintaining the rigidness of the panel. The report also mentions that the hybrid panels will also reduce production costs as they will ditch the backlighting layer.

Traditionally, OLED panels require dual glass substrate but with a hybrid approach, the top glass will be swapped with TFE. The lower glass will keep the integrity of the panel while being less bulky. However, these OLED panels can be easily damaged due to their thin profile. LG is working on the next step to secure the panels in a manner to minimize the risks. Samsung is also working on the technology and will provide Apple will the required components for the OLED iPad Pro.

At this point, we are not familiar with the launch time frame of the OLED iPad Pro. It was previously coined by prominent display analyst Ross Young that the company could see fit to release its upgraded iPad Pro models with an OLED panel next year. Additionally, the OLED panel will be available on both 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models.

This is all there is to it, folks. We will share more details on the subject as soon as further information is available. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
