iPhone 16 Pro Models to Feature Solid-State Buttons in 2024 Instead of iPhone 15 Pro

iPhone 15 Pro to delay solid-state buttons for iPhone 16 Pro

Since last year, it was reported that the iPhone 15 Pro models will adopt a solid-state solution for the Volume and Power buttons. According to the latest from Ming-Chi Kuo, the company has ditched its plans to offer solid-state buttons this year. However, it does not mean that the company has scrapped its plans altogether. Another prominent analyst is now stating that solid-state buttons will be part of the iPhone 16 Pro models next year. Scroll down to read more details on what you expect with the forthcoming iPhone 15 Pro models.

Apple to debut solid-state Volume and Power buttons with the iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro slated to come with physical keys

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has planned to ditch the solid-state buttons in favor of physical keys due to technical issues. The company potentially encountered the issue before the device went up for mass production. With that said, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature the same clicky buttons as the current models. What this mean is that the company will now have ample time to work on the technical issues of the solid-state buttons and debut them with the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro models next year.

Jeff Pu states in his research notes that solid-state buttons have been delayed until Apple resolves the issues, which will potentially be next year (via MacRumors). Pu suggests that Apple is delaying the approach due to unknown "design issues." Since Apple is moving away from the solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro models, we can also presume that the company will also not incorporate two more TapTic Engines.

With the elongated solid-state Volume and Power buttons, it was rumored that the iPhone will feature a total of three Taptic Engines for haptic feedback. The Taptic Engines would be put in place to mimic the same feedback you would get when pressing a button. Apart from this, we have also heard that the solid-state solution will also be applied to the Mute Switch. According to earlier rumors, the iPhone 15 Pro was set to replace the Mute Switch with an Apple Watch Ultra-like Action button. With the latest changes, it seems Apple will keep the conventional Mute Switch as well.

Apple will announce the iPhone 15 Pro models later this year in September alongside other hardware updates. We will keep you guys updated with the latest, so be sure to stick around. Do you think Apple will debut solid-state buttons with the iPhone 16 Pro models?
