How to Root Galaxy S23 and Install Magisk

Galaxy S24 series

The Galaxy S23 is an excellent device whether you want to use it without making any customizations or with customizations. Considering how you have a flagship Android device, there are countless possibilities available in terms of customizing. Sadly, some of them require you to root your device before doing so. While I admit that rooting is no longer as widespread as it used to be, it still exists thanks to many dedicated fans who want to enjoy everything Android has to offer and more. If you want to root Galaxy S23 and install Magisk, you are at the right spot, as we are going to walk you through how that can be done.

Now, a word of advice: if you root your device, you will have to unlock the bootloader on your Galaxy S23. We have a guide for that here. However, unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device, trip the Knox security, your device will not receive OTA updates, and you will not be able to use some security features. At the time of writing, there is no way to undo the tripped Knox counter.

If you know this and still want to root Galaxy S23 and install Magisk, keep reading to learn how to do it.

Note: The following guide is not for USA and Canadian variants of the Galaxy S23. Flashing will not be possible and is not advised as it can lead to hard-brick.

Here is how to Root Galaxy S23 and install Magisk for all the limitless customizations

Step 1: Start by downloading the latest stock firmware that corresponds to your Galaxy S23. You can use Samsung Firmware Downloader for it.

Step 2: Once you have the file, extract it on your computer and copy the AP[bunch of numbers].tar.md5 file onto your phone.

Step 3: Download and install the latest version of Magisk on your phone from here.

Step 4: Launch Magisk and tap the Install button.

Step 5: Now choose Select and Patch a file in method and then choose the AP.tar file that is on your phone.

Step 6: Once the file is patched, it should be named something like magisk_patched_xxx.tar. Copy it onto your computer.

Step 7: Reboot your Galaxy S23 in download mode.

Step 8: Download Odin flash tool from here, and have it ready on your desktop.

Step 9: Launch Odin, and fill the AP (you will use the patched file for AP), BL, CP, and CSC (make sure to use HOME_CSC) slots with corresponding files from the firmware you extracted in the second step.

Step 10: Once all the files are loaded, press Start.

Step 11: Once the files are flashed, your phone should reboot on its own. Once it boots up, simply run the Magisk app, let it run the processes, and you are good to go.

That's it, folks. You are all rooted now. If you want to go ahead and make some customizations to your Galaxy S23, feel free to head over to various forums, download your favorite mods and get started.

One warning, however. Since you have tripped the Knox counter, there is no longer a way for you to receive OTA updates. This means that you will have to install the updates yourself using Odin. In order to do that and keep your root access, you will have to perform the all the steps, all over again, each time, with the latest firmware that you will download.
